Headliner Game

#22 Texas (-6 ½) vs. Georgetown (Empire Classic; MSG, NY) at 7 p.m. (ESPN2)

No ranked vs. ranked headliners tonight but this game is the most compelling match-up on paper today. Texas has a nice road win already at Purdue and has beaten some decent mid-major teams. Shaka is on the hot seat according to who you listen to, and he needs to get Texas back in the tourney to get off of it. This win would help, and more importantly it would avoid a likely match-up against Cal in the consolation game that won’t help their tourney profile. Georgetown has gotten off to a slow start struggling with mid-majors and losing at home to Penn State in the Gavitt Games. They probably need this win more than Texas as it would give them their first really good win of the season, and give them a shot at Duke instead of Texas in the championship game. There is no denying Georgetown is talented, but they haven’t meshed so far this season. I am taking Texas to win and play Duke in the championship of the Empire Classic.

The New Mexico-NMSU game should be a good rivalry game. I like Charlotte to go on the road and edge Appy State. Some of the other games are worth watching to see if the underdogs can hang with big names like Duke, UF, and UCLA. There’s a couple of good mid-major match-ups as well. Enjoy!
